Banjara Dowry Purse

With 80 years of history this Banjara dowry purse reflects on a skill that women acquire from a young age for the hope to increase her chances of marriage. They are one of the Banjara’s most important ceremonial creations as each piece has its own unique patterns and design. Robust in its heavily stitched outer this beauty is coated in Banjara beauty as the carefully hand stitched rows of red, yellow and green create patterns of geometry. Adorned with mirror work and cowrie shells it then folds up into a perfect sized clutch bag. The inner has three pockets and emphasises the work in this perfectly crafted piece. This beautiful artwork could be used as a purse, clutch or wall hanging.
